New speed limits approved at highway entrances to Ponoka

The provincial Minister of Transportation has approved new speed limits on Highway 53 and Highway 2A at the east, west and south entrances to the Town of Ponoka as follows: At the west entrance to Ponoka on Highway 53, the posted speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h down to 80 km/h beginning 1.2 kilometres west of 67 St. and dropping to 60 km/h at 67 St. continuing east.

The provincial Minister of Transportation has approved new speed limits on Highway 53 and Highway 2A at the east, west and south entrances to the Town of Ponoka as follows:

  • At the west entrance to Ponoka on Highway 53, the posted speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h down to 80 km/h beginning 1.2 kilometres west of 67 St. and dropping to 60 km/h at 67 St. continuing east.
  • At the east entrance to Ponoka on Highway 53, the posted speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h down to 80 km/h beginning 400 metres east of the Town corporate limits and dropping to 50 km/h at the corporate limits continuing west.
  • At the south entrance to Ponoka on Highway 2A, the posted speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h down to 80 km/h beginning 825 metres south of 39 Ave. The posted speed limit will be reduced from 80 km/h down to 60 km/h beginning 425 metres south of 39 Ave. and dropping to 50 km/h just south of 44 Ave. continuing northeast.

New signage will be posted in the coming weeks to reflect the new speed limit changes. The above new speed limits were approved by the Minister of Transportation following a request for reduced speed limits at those locations by the Town of Ponoka. Alberta Transportation is responsible for setting speed limits on all provincial highways, including Highway 53 and Highway 2A in Ponoka.
