The Town of Ponoka has created some new recreation programming that will come to the Ponoka Arena Complex. Drop-in badminton, basketball, dodgeball and floor hockey will now be available.

“We are excited to offer this new programming,” said chief administrative officer Sandra Lund in a press release. She added that the two large rink areas offer an ideal space for the activities.

“Expanding programming at the Arena Complex during the spring and summer months aligns with council’s strategic priority of improving the quality of life in Ponoka by increasing programming at our recreational facilities,” said Lund.

The new drop-in programming begins Monday, April 25 and will run until the end of June. Programming will then break for the Ponoka Stampede, and will resume immediately after with a new schedule being posted to the town website at that time.

The curling rink at the Ponoka Arena Complex will be set up with two basketball hoops and two badminton courts. Dodgeball and floor hockey will be played in the small and large rink areas.

Equipment will be provided to users. However, individuals can also use their own equipment.

Children under the age of eight will require direct supervision from a person 16 years of age or older.

A schedule for the new drop-in programming is posted on the Town website. at www.ponoka.ca/p/ponoka-arena-complex.

Drop-in recreation passes can be purchased through the Ponoka Aquaplex and Arena Complex at the front desk. Fees are posted on the Town of Ponoka website at www.ponoka.ca/p/ponoka-arena-complex.
