Excellence in teaching awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2009 Excellence in Teaching Awards Program. Since the inception of the program in 1989, more than 8,200 teachers and principals have been nominated and more than 400 received an award for their contributions to students growth through innovative or creative teaching.

Every year the Lacombe-Ponoka constituency is proud to acknowledge the nominees and winners for the Excellence in Teaching Awards.  This program provides Albertans with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many contributions teachers make to student learning.

I am encouraging parents, teacher-colleagues, principals, superintendents and all Albertans to show their appreciation by nominating an outstanding teacher or principal for an Excellence in Teaching Award.

Nominations for the 2009 Excellence in Teaching Awards (ETA) are being accepted until Thursday Feb. 5. Get your application package today on line at www.education.alberta.ca/teachers/excellence.aspx or pick up a brochure at my constituency office at 101, 4892 – 46 Street, Lacombe, AB.

Alberta child care professional awards of excellence

Nominations for the 2009 Alberta Child Care Professional Awards of Excellence are now open.  I would encourage you to nominate deserving child care professionals throughout the Lacombe-Ponoka Constituency.

The Awards Program recognizes individuals who create a quality care environment for children.  Nominees are assessed on their level of innovation and creativity in working with children.  Eligible recipients work in licensed day cares, preschool and out-of-school care programs or approved family day homes in Alberta’s communities.  Two categories are also included to recognize individuals who demonstrate innovative cultural practices and who work with children with special needs.

Completed nomination packages must be received by Alberta Children and Youth Services by March 6, 2009.  Finalists will be selection from the nominees and then narrowed down to 10 recipients.   Additional information and nomination forms are available on line at www.child.alberta.ca/childcare.
