An officer involved shooting by Maskwacis RCMP has the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigating.

Police say that just after midnight (a day is not specified), police responded to a complaint of shots fired in the Samson Cree First Nation.

“The two members were searching for a suspect on foot when a confrontation occurred between two suspects and the officers which resulted in the discharge of a police weapon,” states a release.

Police say that one suspect was injured during the incident and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a hospital in Edmonton. It isn’t clear the severity of the injuries.

No officers were hurt during the confrontation and there was no risk to public safety, say police.

“The RCMP remains the lead investigating agency on the events leading up to the serious incident, with ASIRT having carriage of the review of police actions,” states the press release.

The Alberta RCMP will not be commenting further on this incident.
