Ponoka Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is moving forward with little issue after the end of its Meals on Wheels program. In early 2022, FCSS had to announce that their supplier, the Old Iron Horse Restaurant and Lounge, had closed down.
Although disappointing, FCSS made sure to give alternatives:
The Raspberry Patch Custom Catering offers food delivery twice per week. Simply call 403-783-2285. Ask for as many meals as you need.
Those connected to FCSS for mental health services can contact Rising Sun Clubhouse for daily food deliveries. Their phone number is 403-783-5810.
Finally, there is Heart to Home Meals, which offers frozen food delivery in Ponoka every two weeks. They can be reached at 1-866-933-1516.
According to FCSS program director Shelly Van Eaton, a vast majority of those using FCSS for food have moved on to other services.
If the migration over to other programs continues to go smoothly, FCSS has no plans to restart the Meals on Wheels program at FCSS.
FCSS is now ramping up for its income tax program. Those who can’t afford assistance with their taxes can go to FCSS and get assistance free of charge.
FCSS is also planning some surprise events for the next few months.
“I can’t tell you anything, because then it wouldn’t be a surprise,” said Van Eaton.
Information regarding FCSS’ events or programs can be found on the Ponoka FCSS website and Facebook page.
