Paving tender accepted

.

A tender from Central City Asphalt in Red Deer to complete about 1.25 miles of paving on the Almita Road west of Highway 2 in the new industrial area was accepted recently by Ponoka County.

The tender came in at $1,469,000 and paving is to be completed next spring.

Reconstruction of about 800 meters of the road will be completed this fall.

Parkland Beach expansion Council agreed to support the Summer Village of Parkland Beach’s proposed beach expansion project.

“Many of our residents make good use of the beach area and we’ve assisted them with maintenance over the years,” said county CAO Charlie Cuthbert.

Parkland Beach CAO Marilee Wakunin said the long-term plan is to improve and expand the north end of the village with a new parking lot and new amenities.

She said Friends of the Lakefront will apply to apply to Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resources for a new swimming beach, also to be located on the north end of Gull Lake. Interpretive trails with an elevated viewing deck and new playground equipment are to be included in the proposed plan.

“We are looking for provincial grants, corporate sponsors and volunteers to help with the work,” Wakunin said.
