The six Progressive Conservative candidates vying for departing Premier Ed Stelmach’s job will make their pitches for support in Red Deer Sept. 1.
An all-candidates forum hosted by the PC Association of Alberta has been scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. at the Capri Centre. It will be the sixth of eight forums across the province since July 21.
Forums in Calgary on Sept. 7 and Edmonton on Sept. 15 round out the schedule.
Doug Griffiths, Doug Horner, Gary Mar, Ted Morton, Rick Orman and Alison Redford are in the running to be party leader.
Party members will vote on Sept. 17. If a second ballot is required, that vote will take place on Oct. 1.
PC Association executive director Pat Godkin said the forums have been drawing big crowds.
In Lethbridge about 400 people attended and another 4,400 tuned in to a live video streaming of the event available through the party’s website at www.albertapc.ab.ca
Godkin said likely thousands more are watching the events live because party members often gather in groups at homes or campaign headquarters to see how candidates do.
“The social media has taken it to a different kind of level,” she said.
The forums are free and open to all of the public. Party memberships can be purchased at the event.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and candidates will be available both before and after the forum.
Candidates will be allowed a four-minute opening statement and then given an opportunity to answer written questions provided by the public
