PHOTO: Ponoka fire crews tackle small structure fire

A building fire was halted before it could go any further Thursday afternoon in Ponoka

Fire averted: Members of the Ponoka County East District Fire Department took a call of a structure fire in Ponoka Thursday afternoon. Witnesses stated they could see smoke emanating from the side of the building at 5024 49 Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews had to gain access to the area where the fire and smoke were coming from. Crews then accessed the area to quell the flames. It is unclear at this time the cause of the incident. There was some recent roof work done on the building, however, it isn’t known if that had any affect on the fire. Photo by Jeffrey Heyden-Kaye
