PHOTOS: Ponoka Legion holds candlelight vigil

The Ponoka Legion Branch No. 66 held its annual candlelight vigil at the cemetery on Oct. 12.

Ponoka Secondary Campus (PSC) students, 4H members and other volunteers placed no-flame electronic candles on the headstones of service members before the playing of The Last Post and a few minutes of silence were observed.

The students were part of the Broncs World Tour class at PSC. The class will again head to Europe in spring, 2023, to visit the grave sites of Ponoka and area soldiers who died overseas in wartime.

Following the ceremony, the candles were removed and refreshments were served at the Legion.

In preparation for Remembrance Day, the Legion will be setting up 100 Canadian flags along the fence at Lions Centennial Park on Oct. 22, from 10:30 to 11 a..m. The public is invited.
