All play structures in Ponoka have been closed, with signs posted, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As announced on the Town of Ponoka website March 27, all play structures in public areas and on school grounds in the community are closed until further notice in order to slow the potential spread of the virus.

“As the weather warms up and these play structures become popular attractions, the hard surfaces on playground equipment become a risk for virus transmission,” said CAO Albert Flootman in a statement on the town’s website.

“That’s why it’s important that we close them now in keeping with provincial health directives to practice physical distancing.”

The move to close all playground structures was made in conjunction with Wolf Creek Public Schools.
