Ponoka residents and business owners may come in contact with the Ponoka and District Chamber of Commerce’s two summer students in the coming months, as they work on tourism and shop local contests that are sponsored by the town.

This is the third year the chamber has hired summer students through the Canada Summer Job Grant, though last year, due to COVID-19, they did not have any summer students.

Rachel Devet

Rachel Devet will be working on tourism in Ponoka in the position of visitor information counsellor.

Devet is a second-year student at the University of Alberta, studying for a bachelor of science in psychology with a minor in kinesiology. Her goal is to become a physiotherapist with her own clinic.

She has been involved in 4-H for her whole life, growing up on a dairy farm with three horses of her own. She shows competitively in the quarter horse association and hopes to attend shows this year with her yearling filly.

”I love working with people and have a passion for animals,” said Devet.

“I also love travelling and exploring new places, so I am super excited for the day when I can safely travel again. I am super excited to be helping local businesses this summer.”

Regan Corkery

Regan Corkery is the Ponoka chamber’s new summer student filling the position of communication assistant.

Corkery is currently working on her business administration degree through Red Deer College.

She says she’s excited to gain experience in business connections and is looking forward to getting to know people in Ponoka.
