Ponoka County council appointed new Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB) members-at-large during their regular meeting on Jan. 11.
While the municipal planning commission (MPC) is the subdivision authority for Ponoka County, the SDAB hears and decides on appeals against decisions on applications for subdivision of development.
According to the county’s planning authorities bylaw, the SDAB for Ponoka County is to consist of the two councillors who are not part of the MPC and no less than three, and no more than six, members of the public who are residents of the municipality, or who own land in the municipality. An employee of the municipality can’t serve as a member on the board.
The newly appointed members-at-large are Gordon Svenningsen (former county councillor), Chad Cissell, Dale Hoar (former county councillor), Rick Bonnett (former mayor of Ponoka), Dave McPherson and Joe Henderson.
The two councillors appointed to SDAB are Reeve Paul McLauchlin and Coun. Doug Weir.
The members serve of a rotational basis according to a schedule set by the county’s chief administrative officer.
In some cases, when council feels it would be beneficial that an appeal be heard by people who are not residents of Ponoka County, may may appoint a special board for the case.
The MPC for Ponoka County consists of three councillors appointed by resolution of council, according to the bylaw.
Coun. Mark Matejka is the MPC chairman. Councillors Bryce Liddle and Nancy Hartford were also appointed to the MPC.
