Although there was no show due to COVID-19, the Ponoka District 4-H Beef Committee held a virtual sale for the second year in a row on May 4, 2021.
The animals were judged for conformation at the market by Danny Skeels before the online timed auction began.
Skeels shared his comments on each entry and the reasons for their placement over video.
“It was very informative,” said Ponoka District 4-H Beef Committee president Craig Haan.
“He did a really good job,” he said, adding that the youth learned more from watching Skeels’ video then he thinks they would have from judging in a ring.
The online timed auction went smoothly.
“VJV did a wonderful job,” said Haan.
“I think the sale ran quite well,” said Leah Cline, secretary.
“We had a few new buyers so that was nice to see and a few bidding wars that was kind of fun to watch, but we are all very much looking forward to being able to have our show and sale back in-person.”
There were roughly 70 signed up for the auction and 46 total people actively bidding on the 32 animals.
The Charity Steer Raffle sold out, raising $9,000 for the Make A Wish Foundation. Jeff Harvey as the winner and he plans to donate it back to 4-H.
