Ponoka Elementary School recognized for Terry Fox Run fundraising

Wolf Creek schools raise over $50,000 for TFF in 2022

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS), and Ponoka Elementary School (PES) in particular, has been recognized for their fundraising efforts in the 2022 Terry Fox Run.

WCPS, with 18 schools from the district participating, raised a total of $54,340.17. Of that amount, PES alone raised $11,619.50.

“WCPS is being congratulated for its continued efforts to live the legacy of Terry Fox through the Terry Fox Run,” stated a press release. “It’s something the entire division is also proud of.”

The Terry Fox Foundation expressed its gratitude to WCPS schools in a letter to the school division.

In the letter, the foundation said that Terry Fox, an iconic Canadian hero, asked for only $1 from every Canadian in 1980 to help find a cure for cancer.

However, he went far beyond that, demonstrating perseverance, empathy, courage, and never giving up — values that remain relevant today.

“The lessons he taught are especially important in schools, and it is an honour that educators use Terry as a means of teaching,” stated the foundation.

“We are incredibly proud of the commitment and passion displayed by our students and staff in raising funds for the Terry Fox School Run,” said Tim De Ruyck, WCPS superintendent, in the release.

“Their efforts truly demonstrate the power of our community coming together to make a difference.

“We are grateful for the participation of families and community members who joined us in this important cause. It is a testament to our shared values of empathy, perseverance, and the importance of giving back.”
