Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for central Alberta on May 18.
“Thunderstorms will develop late this morning and afternoon and will move to the northeast. Some of these thunderstorms may produce up to nickel sized hail, local downpours and gusty winds.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury.
“Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
