For the last four years, the Feragen family of Ponoka has honoured their late son and brother, Clayton Feragen, by holding a fundraiser in his name and donating the proceeds to KidSport.

On Jan. 18, the family donated $1,220 to the local chapter of the charity that helps kids participate in sports.

“Clayton did love sports. He played hockey all his life and loved it,” said Trevor Feragen, Clayton’s brother.

“We feel that every kid should be able to get a chance at playing sports.”

Trevor added Clayton especially loved watching his nieces and nephews play and watching the World Junior Hockey Tournament in December.

Clayton passed away in a car accident on Nov. 6, 2018, at the age of 35. His family remembers him as a fun-loving guy who brought people together.

Every year, the family holds “Clayton ‘Fire’ Christmas.” Known for his fiery red hair, “Fire” was one of Clayton’s nicknames.

The family rents Siding 14 Brewery for a Saturday in December and invite family and Clayton’s close friends.

Money is raised through door prizes and donations. Trevor’s mother Sharon also makes a basket of Clayton’s favourite things which is raffled off.

“It’s a great night of reminiscing of the great times we had with Clayton, some good stories are also shared and obviously a few tears shed,” said Trevor.
