Ponoka Kinettes gearing up to host Resurrect the Dress

Members of the Ponoka Kinettes are gearing up to host the second annual Resurrect the Dress event on Sept. 23.

The event will be held at the Ponoka Legion with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

If you have a wedding dress, a prom dress, or a formal dress that is collecting dust in the closet, this fun event is the chance to shake them out and dance the night away, said Natalie Reglin, chair of the event. And guys are more than welcome to show up in jeans, she added with a chuckle.

“The idea for this came about with COVID, and with people just not having those opportunities to wear prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses,” said Reglin, who is vice president of the Ponoka Kinettes as well.

“We thought, why don’t we have an event called ‘Resurrect the Dress’ where people can pull out these dresses from their closets whether they are from the past or present?

“Last year, we had people come in everything from wedding dresses from the 1980s to grad dresses from the year before,” she explained. “Everyone had the opportunity to dig them out of their closets and show them off at a dance!”

This year’s event will feature music by On the Mark Productions and a late lunch by Bob Ronnie Catering. There will be a cash bar and door prizes, too.

The meal will be served at 9 p.m.

“Last year and this year as well, we are going to do a silent auction, which will have donations from businesses in the community,” she said.

“We had so much fun last year, we are definitely looking forward to the event this year and to continue to build on what we started last year as well.

“There was lots of feedback about how it was a great idea to bring out the dresses and show them off!”

Reglin noted that with the funds raised from the silent auction, the goal is to add to the Kinette Scholarship Fund.

Those interested in attending can book a table for eight for $350, or single tickets are also available for $50 each.

To purchase tickets, call Reglin at 403-896-8941 or email ReglinN@bostonpizza.com or the Ponoka Kinettes at ponokakinetteclub@hotmail.com.
