The Ponoka Pickleball Club squared off against Bashaw via a tournament at the Ponoka courts on Sept. 16.

“Bashaw won our first tournament,” said Shirley Turner, one of the Ponoka Club’s members.

“We had a great turn-out, and it was a beautiful day,” she added. “It was four hours of solid pickleball, and we ended up playing 12 games.

“It was our first one, and it was a success. So we are going to plan it again for next year, too.”

Both communities have sizable clubs, and folks are always welcome to join in either.

“Sometimes we go out there to play — they have a beautiful court out there, and sometimes they come to us,” she said. “It’s nice to be affiliated with them.”

Meanwhile, club members will continue to play outside until the weather changes, and then they head indoors at the Ponoka Elementary School where they meet through the winter months.

“It goes all year long,” she said. “It’s usually in October that we go into the school.”
