Somehow senior citizens, classic cars and hotrods just seem to go together.

Maybe it’s that we’ve had a little work done like the cars, be it ball joints, hoses, a little electric enhancement under the hood or some body filler in the dents.

Experienced cars and experienced people. Maybe the cars bring back great memories, or they are a fun hobby for folks with the time to enjoy them. However it happens to strike your fancy it’s a good time.

Recently during Seniors’ Week Doug Hart, keeper of the records for the Ponoka Piston Poppers car club, organized a parade through several seniors hangouts. Rimoka Golden Leisure Lodge, Northcott Lodge, Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury and Seasons Retirement Living were all treated to a parade of 18 of the Piston Poppers cars, as were other Ponoka residents who happened to see the route in between.

Stan Schultz marshalled us through our route in the Antique Ponoka Fire Truck. We stopped in a couple of places for the folks to have a close up view and a visit with the car owners and drivers. We got to hear many stories from the seniors about the cars they had owned and the good times they had in them.

The car owners got to show them off and answer questions about their rides, themselves and the fun they have building and showing these cars. There was lots of honking, whooping and waving as we wended our way through streets and parking lots, enjoying a beautiful sunny day and the joy of the people watching.
