Ponoka RCMP charge male with possession of break-in tools

A male suspect was arrested by the Ponoka RCMP on site after a series of calls from concerned citizens led them to an unwanted man inside a truck on Jan. 29.

Homeowners of a residential property in Morningside reported that a male arrived on their property in a car, and entered one of their vehicles. After confronting the male, he fled on foot carrying a duffle bag.

The RCMP attended and determined that the vehicle he arrived in was reported stolen out of Calgary.

A call from a second homeowner was received, indicating that the man was on another property checking doors. He left and went to a third residence.

The RCMP located the male, sitting in a truck at the third residence. The male was arrested without incident. The RCMP seized several break-in tools from within his duffle bag.

Shawn Andrew Alexis (33) is charged with theft of a truck, possession of stolen property, mischief, possession of break-in instruments and two charges under the Petty Trespass Act.

At the time of his arrest, Alexis was wanted on numerous arrest warrants out of Calgary. Alexis has been released and is scheduled to attend court on Feb. 26, 2021 in Ponoka.

The RCMP is appreciative of the alert citizens who called Ponoka RCMP for assistance.
