Ponoka RCMP handle suspicious vehicles, thefts and find drugs

RCMP briefs from June 2 to June 8

On June 2, the Ponoka RCMP received a call in regards to a stolen truck and horse trailer from the Rimbey Detachment area. The trailer was later located on RR 283 one-mile South of Highway 53.

Also on June 2, the Ponoka RCMP received a complaint of a theft of a 2000 Dodge Ram from a residence on 59 St. The vehicle was later recovered by the Edmonton Police Service.

On June 3, during a routine patrol of the Ponoka County, members were travelling down Range Road 252A and noticed a blue SUV that appeared to be driving to close to the shoulder of the road. When members ran the Alberta license plate it was found that the plate did not match the vehicle.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 22-year old female from Maskwacis, was arrested for impaired driving. She was also charged with operating a motor vehicle without proper registration, driving uninsured and driving a motor vehicle without proper supervision. Her court date is set for August 14, 2020.

On June 4, 2020 the Ponoka RCMP attended to the IGA parking lot to assist with trying to locate a blue Dodge van. Two unknown males were seen entering the van at the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot after stealing a license plate off of a vehicle there.

Two males from Maskwacis were arrested and charged with theft of a license plate, breach of a recognizance, theft under $5,000 and transporting open liquor. Court was set for August 14, 2020.

On June 07, 2020 the Ponoka RCMP were notified of a suspicious truck by the Canalta Hotel. RCMP members intercepted the truck exiting the parking lot.

Upon investigation it was noted that there were break-in tools in the vehicle as well as a stolen firearm. A code reader, drugs and bear spray were also found in the vehicle.

A car that was associated to the passenger of the truck was located in the parking lot of the Petro Canada Gas Bar. The plate on the car was associated to a different vehicle and was not registered.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29 year old male from Red Deer, was charged with possession of crystal meth, possessing break-in instruments, unauthorized possession of a weapon obtained by crime, four counts of failure to comply with a release order condition, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The 29-year-old male passenger from Red Deer was charged with three counts of failure to comply with a release order condition, possession of break-in instruments, possession of crystal meth, possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, possession of a weapon obtained by crime and possessions of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
