In an effort to increase road safety on town of Ponoka roads and area highways, the Ponoka RCMP detachment conducted a series of pro-active initiatives in December leading up to and during the holiday season.

These pro-active initiatives included six planned Alberta Checkstops and an enhanced traffic enforcement initiative which resulted in the following:

460 vehicles checked.

83 violation tickets/written warnings issued.

Two roadside suspensions.

Six impaired drivers.

The focused enforcement by the Ponoka RCMP over the holiday season was intended to contribute to safe roads and safe communities by ensuring a pro-active police presence in neighbour hoods while targeting unsafe vehicles and high risk driving habits.
