Ponoka RCMP investigate hit and runs, seize drugs

Ponoka RCMP are investigating after two hit and runs in town led to the seizure of a significant amount of drugs.

Ponoka RCMP are investigating after two hit and runs in town led to the seizure of a significant amount of drugs.

On Nov. 30, at 2:03 p.m., Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run collision within Ponoka involving an SUV.

Twenty minutes later, RCMP received an additional report of a hit and run collision involving what is believed to be the same suspect vehicle.

Witnesses reported two suspects fled the location of the collision on foot.

RCMP located the damaged SUV, a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, at the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed a significant amount of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine. Police also located and seized a loaded .22 calibre handgun and ammunition.

Ponoka RCMP continue to investigate this incident with the help of the Ponoka RCMP General Investigative Section, RCMP Traffic Services, and the Alberta Sheriff’s.
