Ponoka RCMP investigate robbery at liquor store

Employee sustained minor injury in altercation with thieves

Ponoka RCMP arrested a 17-year-old youth and are asking for public assistance to identify two other suspects after a robbery at a local liquor store resulted in the injury of an employee.

Ponoka RCMP received a report of a robbery at 7:03 p.m. on June 15. When they arrived, members arrested the youth, a resident of Montana First Nation, who had been detained by staff.

Officers determined three three suspects entered the store and began stuffing liquor into their clothing. When confronted by an employee, one of the suspects broke a wine bottle and assaulted the employee causing minor injury. The other two suspects fled.

The youth was charged with robbery and has been released for a future court date in Ponoka.

The RCMP continues to investigate and is asking for public assistance in identifying the additional suspects.
