Ponoka RCMP have arrested a suspect in relation to two local robberies.
On Jan. 16, the detachment received a report of a male shoplifting at a store. When confronted, the male assaulted the staff member.
On Jan. 17, Ponoka RCMP received a report of a male seen shoplifter from a different store. When confronted, the male produced a knife and left.
As a result of both investigations RCMP have arrested and charged Matthew George Omeasoo, 26, of no fixed address, with two counts of robbery and two counts of failure to comply with release conditions.
Omeasoo has been taken before a justice of the peace and has been remanded in custody with his next court appearance date set for Jan. 20.
RCMP said members of the public were instrumental in the timely arrest in this investigation.
