On Jan. 6, 2022, Ponoka RCMP with the assistance of the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CAD CRU), observed a male meeting Jayson Bixby’s description walk into a residence on 50 Ave. in Ponoka.

Members of the Ponoka RCMP, CAD CRU, and the RCMP Police Dog Service obtained and executed a warrant to search the home and located Bixby, 38, of Ponoka, hiding in the attic.

RCMP arrested Bixby on all his outstanding warrants. An additional charge of failure to comply with an order has been laid.

“This is a wonderful example of different RCMP units working in tandem to safely locate arrest a potentially dangerous person in our community,” said Staff Sergeant Chris Smiley Ponoka RCMP Detachment Commander in a release.

Bixby has been remanded in custody with his next court appearance set for Jan. 21, 2022, in Ponoka.

There had been concern that he was armed, avoiding arrest, and may have posed a risk to the public.

Bixby was wanted for uttering threats, three counts of failing to attend court, administering a noxious substance, assault with a weapon, obstruction, two counts of resisting arrest, five counts of failure to comply with conditions of release, criminal harassment, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
