A traffic enforcement initiative by Ponoka RCMP helped nab motorists travelling at high speeds.
From April 5 to April 20, members of the Ponoka RCMP held traffic enforcement initiatives in an effort to remind motorists to obey the rules of the road.
Enforcement was held in a few ares with some tickets issued to one motorist travelling at three times the school speed zone.
At Highway 53 and Crestomere in the 30 km/h school zone, 18 speeding tickets were issued with the highest speed recorded at 96 km/h in the 30km/h school zone.
Officers also handed out temporary tattoos to the kids on the school yard during lunch hour.
At Highway 53 and 42 Street in the 50 km/h zone entering the east side of Ponoka a total of 35 speeding tickets were issued with the highest speed recorded at 147 km/h in a 50km/h zone.
The latter faces a mandatory court appearance.
RCMP also held roving patrols in the town and county of Ponoka with the following tickets being issued:
• Three speeding tickets
• Seven intersection related tickets
• Three seat belt infractions
• 10 tickets for expired/improper documents
Ponoka RCMP would like to remind the motoring public to watch their speeds and obey all traffic laws. Traffic enforcement will continue to be one of the priorities for Ponoka RCMP Detachment members during the summer months.
