The Town of Ponoka has announced when registration will open for the spring swimming program at the Ponoka Aquaplex.

According to a release by the town on March 22, registration for spring swimming lessons will open on Tue, April 4 at 10 a.m.

With the Red Cross pulling out of the water safety field a couple of years ago, 2023 swimming lessons in Ponoka will delivered through the Swim for Life program, which operates under the Canadian Lifesaving Society.

The release notes that for parents and guardians unsure of their child’s swimming level under the Swim for Life program, a transition chart is available for download under the download documents tab on the lifesaving.org website. Paper copies will also be available at the aquaplex.

Parents and guardians still unsure of their child’s swimming level after reviewing the chart can ask the aquaplex staff for a free swim assessment, a service which is offered during public swims.

In addition to the basic swimming lessons, registration for advanced programs such as Junior Lifeguard Club, Bronze Medallion and CPR-C will open at the same time.

A full list of programs offered will be available onlinea and paper copies will also be available at the aquaplex.

Programming will begin in early May, and conclude by late June.

Registration for any of the above can take place at the aquaplex, or on the web at ponoka.ca/p/aquaplex.
