Ponoka town council approved a $3,500 donation during their regular meeting on Dec. 14, to support the Ponoka and District Health Foundation’s “Greatest Need” fund.

The funds for the donation will come from the Council Advertising Budget. The donation will help support the purchase of a jaundice metre, material fetal monitor, breast pump and a portable x-ray machine for the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre.

In past years, the Town of Ponoka has supported the foundation’s fundraising efforts by sponsoring the Festival of Trees, Breakfast with Santa, Snowmuch Family Fun Day and in 2020, the town made a donation of $3,500 for the renovations of the tub room at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ponoka Festival of Trees event has been cancelled for the past two years.

“Town council is happy to make this donation. The Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre is a vital part of our community in supporting the health and wellness of our residents,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson in a press release.
