Ponoka woman dies in collision near Morningside

RCMP continue to investigate a collision Feb. 10 near Morningside in which Clarabelle Raab, 82, of Ponoka died.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Ponoka RCMP and Lacombe Fire and EMS responded to a call involving two vehicles at the intersection of Highway 2A and Secondary Highway 604.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 Chevy Silverado truck was travelling southbound on Highway 2A and went to make a left hand turn, colliding head on with the northbound 1991 Chrysler New Yorker sedan driven by Raab.

Raab died on scene as a result of her injuries.

“The collision is still under investigation, we’ve had a collision analyst out there and he’s doing his work,” said Staff Sgt. Cameron Chisholm.

Chisholm confirmed Raab died immediately from the force of the collision.

The lone driver of the truck was not injured in the collision and road conditions and alcohol were ruled out as factors.

There is no timeline when the collision analyst will file his report, but it is expected those findings will indicate whether charges will be laid against the driver of the truck.
