The Town of Ponoka’s annual Pavement and Concrete Improvement Programs for 2022 are underway.

The annual programs identify and prioritize aging roadways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters in Ponoka that require improvement and replacement based on the condition and priority of each piece of infrastructure within the town’s roadway system.

Pavement and concrete improvements are planned for the following locations throughout Ponoka this summer.

• Extensive improvements are already underway for 51 Avenue which will replace aging infrastructure that has reached the end of its life cycle.

51 Avenue (between 50 Street and 51 Street) is closed to traffic and on-street parking until later this fall. During construction, businesses along 51 Avenue are open and pedestrian access and parking are available.

• 53 Avenue (between 51 and 53 Street) – Work will begin this summer for new pavement overlay at this location.

• 49 Street Parking Lot at North Trailhead – Work completed, or soon to be completed includes a new paved parking lot and a paved trail extension that connects the parking lot with the green bridge at the north trailhead; a new seating area with benches, garbage receptacles, shrubs and trees and new way finding signage that will include a new map of the Town of Ponoka walking trail system.

• Multiple locations throughout Ponoka – Paving and concrete replacement and repair will also be happening at multiple locations throughout the community over the summer months.

The town asks motorists to drive with caution and observe road signs and traffic safety personnel in construction zones.
