Ponoka’s Christmas Lights Tour to begin next week

The Town of Ponoka is once again organizing a community self-guided Christmas Lights Tour, which will launch on Monday, Dec 6.

“Every year, there are many citizens in Ponoka who put an exceptional amount of effort into their Christmas lights. We thought organizing a self-guided Christmas Lights Tour again this year would be a great family-fun activity that many people would enjoy,” said Sandra Lund, Chief Administrative Officer, in a press release.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the town by Dec. 1 if they would like to enter their home in the community’s Christmas Lights Tour.

Participating residents will have their addresses added to the tour map that will be posted on the town’s website at www.ponoka.ca and on social media by Dec. 6.

To enter your home in the Christmas Lights Tour, please phone 403-783-0131 or email recreation@ponoka.ca. Provide your name and address to confirm your interest.

Expanded light display at Centennial Park

The Lions Centennial Park light display will be one stop along Ponoka’s Christmas Lights Tour. The Ponoka Lions Club donated $5,000, making the Lions Centennial Park light display bigger and brighter this year.

While enjoying the Christmas lights display, citizens will also be able to skate along the trail that winds through Centennial Park.

Over the coming weeks, the Ponoka Regional Fire Department will be working with town crews to build the outdoor skating trail (weather permitting).

When the skating trail opens, an announcement will be posted to the town’s website and on social media.

Downtown Skating Plaza

Another stop along the lights tour is the town’s Christmas tree, which features 2,200 festive lights and sits in the heart of the community at the Downtown Skating Plaza at 5110 48 Ave.

The oval rink at the skating plaza will once again surround the town’s Christmas tree, where citizens can lace up their skates and enjoy the holiday season. Installation of the skating plaza is currently underway (weather permitting).

When the skating rink opens, an announcement will be posted to the town’s website at www.ponoka.ca and on social media.
