Ponoka’s Downtown Skating Plaza set to open for New Year’s Eve

The Downtown Skating Plaza at 5110, 48 Ave. next to the old library is set to open tomorrow afternoon (Dec. 31) for New Year’s Eve.

The Downtown Skating Plaza at 5110, 48 Ave. next to the old library is set to open tomorrow afternoon (Dec. 31) for New Year’s Eve.

Throughout the winter months, citizens will be able to enjoy the outdoors by skating on this oval rink that surrounds the town’s Christmas tree.

The Downtown Skating Plaza is on a first-come, first-served basis. When using the Downtown Skating Plaza, please limit your time (up to an hour) to allow others a chance to enjoy the ice.

Citizens are encouraged to continue following COVID-19 provincial health regulations at all outdoor rink including:

- Physical distancing from other households; and

- Staying home if you are feeling unwell.

Indoor public skating and shinny hockey

Throughout the holiday season, free public skating and shinny hockey are offered indoors at the

Winter outdoor recreation

The arrival of winter conditions, there are many more outdoor activities will soon be available in

Ponoka, such as cross-country skiing at the Ponoka Golf Course and the skating trail at the Lions

Centennial Park.

Updates on when these activities will open for the season will be posted to the

Town’s website at www.ponoka.ca/p/outdoor-winter-recreation and on social media.
