Ponoka’s Maddison Pearman misses podium by fraction at ISU World Cup

Ponoka’s Maddison Pearman nearly had a podium finish in the ISU Speed Skating World Cup on Nov. 10.

In Obihiro, Japan the 27-year-old placed fourth in the women’s 1500-metre race with a time of 2:00.05.

Pearman finished just behind China’s Binyu Yang who claimed third in 1:59.87.

The race gave Pearman a boost in the World Cup standings in the 1500m with 17 points she’s currently in 23rd overall.

On Thursday Pearman also claimed sixth place in the women’s 1000m race in 1:17.71.

Earlier this season, Pearman posted a season-best run at the 2024 Long Track Championships in Calgary in the 1000m race in a time of 1:15.62 to take first place.

The World Cup will continue in Japan until Nov. 12 before the next stop in the circuit takes place in Beijing, China on Nov. 17-19.
