Ponoka’s location has proven a great spot for the CP Holiday Train, which is once again coming through Ponoka.

Scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3:45 p.m., the train will be making its way from southern Alberta.

Entertainment promises to be a fun experience with three female musicians: Terri Clark out of Medicine Hat, Sierra Noble from Winnipeg, Man. and Kelly Prescott based out of Nashville and Toronto, Ont.

Clark is a three-time Juno Award winner and has received 19 CCMA awards, plus is a member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Noble has a strong history in the scene and her song Possibility was featured on television shows One Tree Hill and Switched at Birth. Prescott is a third generation singer with popular songs such as Carryin’ Coal and Coming Home To You (ft. Buddy Miller).

The Holiday Train was launched in 1999 and has raised over $14.5 million, plus helped collect 4.3 million pounds of food for communities in the Canada and the U.S.

Getting folks in the spirit of the event is a Capture the Spirit photo contest, which has become an exciting promotion of the train. “Six winners will receive a ride for four on the 2019 CP Holiday Train and a $1,000 donation to their local food bank,” states the website.

Last year CP donated $4,000 to the Ponoka Food Bank, which added to the overall total of food and cash donated from Ponoka residents.

The schedule shows that Medicine Hat will be the first Alberta stop on Dec. 7 with the train eventually stopping in Ponoka on Dec. 9 at 3:45 p.m. The Holiday Train will be northbound first stopping in Blackfalds at 12:45 pm, followed by Lacombe at 2 p.m., then Ponoka and then to Wetaskiwin at about 5:30 p.m.

In an effort to bring healthy choices to the food banks, the CP Holiday Train organizers request those donating have healthy choices.

Using the social media hashtag: #HealthyDonations, planners request these items for donations.

Follow Food Banks Canada’s heart-healthy donation recommendations and bring:
