UPDATE: Amanda Rau’s case was put off until May 24, 2019, at the request of her lawyer, May 3 at Ponoka Provincial Court.
Amanda Rau, 30 years old, appeared briefly in Ponoka Provincial Court May 3 via CCTV.
On Sept. 23, 2018, Rau was eventually arrested after a police pursuit for stealing a railroad maintenance truck from a Ponoka gas station while it was fuelling up.
Rau was charged with two counts of theft of a vehicle, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, impaired operation of a vehicle, flight from police, driving while disqualified and mischief.
The chase ended with the woman attempting to hide from police in a tree.

Rau first appeared in court on Nov. 2, 2018 and pleaded guilty to several of the charges against her.
Her sentencing was delayed by six months to allow her to start a one-year drug rehabilitation program.

Rau has matters pending in Edmonton as well, but arrangements were made to handle all the matters in Ponoka.
Rau’s lawyer stated he was unprepared to handle both the Edmonton matters with the Ponoka charges. He’d understood that Edmonton defence lawyer Jason Leung would be coming to speak on the Edmonton matters, but wasn’t present.
Hon. Judge C. Purvis agreed to push the pre-sentencing hearing back one week to allow Rau’s lawyer time to prepare.
Purvis stated he’d reviewed Rau’s file and told her it was, “for sure in your best interest to deal with all these things together,” adding Rau had been “working hard.”
Rau responded, saying “Thank you, your honour.”
She will appear again in Ponoka Provincial Court on May 10.
