Preliminary hearing set for pair charged with attempted murder for downtown Ponoka shooting

Sentencing for Ponoka man charged with assault going ahead next week

After being adjourned several times since January, 2023, a preliminary hearing has been two men charged with attempted murder for a shooting in downtown Ponoka last fall.

The hearing for Eldon James Saddleback Junior and Anthony Kelsey Lee Omeasoo has been set for March 5, 2024, at the Ponoka Court of Justice.

On Sept. 21, 2022, at 2:51 a.m., Ponoka RCMP received reports of a shooting near the Leland Hotel.

A victim with what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds was identified and taken to hospital by STARS in stable condition.

Saddleback, 34, a resident of Maskwacis, and Omeasoo, 29, a resident of Wetaskiwin, were apprehended in Banff National Park a few days later on Sept. 26.

Assault

A Ponoka man charged with assault and unlawful confinement will be sentenced at the Ponoka Court of Justice on Aug. 25.

He is additionally charged with threats to cause bodily harm stemming from incidents in 2021.

The accused is facing charges for alleged death threats from April 20, assault causing bodily harm on April 27, and unlawful confinement and more threats, from July 19, 2021.
