A Red Deer ultralight pilot walked away with minor injuries Tuesday morning when his plane crashed into a barley field while taking off at Ponoka Industrial Airport.

Ponoka RCMP, firefighters and EMS personnel attended the scene.

Police say the 57-year-old pilot may have experienced mechanical trouble. Transportation Safety Board officials have been called in to investigate.
