The Town of Ponoka has begun a second round of public engagement for its Municipal Development Plan (MDP).
Residents are invited to attend the second “Plan Ponoka” open house on June 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre in order to receive feedback from citizens on the policy direction of the plan.
According to the town, all feedback received during the first round of public engagement has been reviewed and drafted into a major policy direction. The major policy direction outlines goals, objectives and a vision for Ponoka’s new MDP.
The major policy direction document includes 10 themes that list the goals and objectives for the town and key principles that are intended to be reviewed with the public.
The major policy direction can be viewed on www.LetsTalkPonoka.ca. Citizens can also fill out a survey on the site, or fill out a paper copy at the Ponoka Civic Centre.
The deadline to provide feedback is July 7.
Once the second round of engagement is concluded, the town will draft policies that fit under each theme included in the major policy direction.
Ponoka’s current MDP was adopted in 2013, and since then, the town has experienced “significant changes,” stated a release.
Some of those changes include a population increase of 6.7 per cent since 2011 and several new planning initiatives.
A draft MDP will be presented to the community later this year and the final plan will be presented to town council at the end of December for review and consideration.
