QE II driver injured

  • Mar. 3, 2009 2:00 p.m.

On Feb. 28 RCMP Ponoka Traffic Services responded to a call about a driver driving the wrong direction on the QE II. The driver, at approximately 8:38 p.m., was heading southbound in the northbound lane.

The driver, a 73-year-old man from Blackfalds, rolled his vehicle into a ditch near Highway 604. The man was transported to the Ponoka Hospital for treatment and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say that alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this and that the matter is still under investigation.

It is believed that the man had medical issues which may have contributed to the crash, and no charges are being considered.

The man was the only person in the vehicle and no other drivers were injured in this incident.
