RCMP investigate homicide near Sylvan Lake

Victim was transported to the hospital, however, died from the injuries

Sylvan Lake RCMP are asking for the public’s help as investigators try to piece together what led to a fatal shooting near Eckville early Monday.

Police responded to a shooting call about 4 a.m. on Range Road 34 just north of Highway 11, about three km south of Eckville.

When police got there they found a badly wounded 46-year-old man. He was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said the incident happened on or near the rural road. Police are asking that if anyone saw any suspicious people or vehicles in the area early on Monday or have any other information that could prove helpful to call police.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate and further details are not being provided at this time.
