One person is dead and two others are in hospital following a collision just west of Castor on June 11.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Castor Fire Department, Coronation RCMP and East Central Ambulance were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12 between the Town of Castor and Township Road 380.

The highway was closed for several hours as the victims were extricated and the RCMP conducted their investigation.

Preliminary reports from the RCMP indicate that an eastbound truck on Highway 12 crossed the centreline and impacted a westbound SUV.

A 79-year-old Red Deer male driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnel. His female passenger and the driver of the truck were both airlifted to hospital by STARS.

The RCMP continues to investigate the collision.
