Two residents want to know what the next step will be for the Town of Ponoka following the investigation into the fire equipment transfer.

The town has since released the report from the All Fire Investigation and residents Frank Bergman and Linda Bergman had questions Feb. 14 during the public forum of council’s regular meeting.

First to speak was Frank who suggested the town must disband the Ponoka Fire Department (PFD) and have the town join the county in a regional system. “In the report the chief says in there that even he agrees that it should be a regional thing.”

“Secondly I’d like to know what happened to all the fire equipment,” said Bergman.

He referred to the equipment that was removed from emergency vehicles by the Ponoka Fire Brigade prior to the transfer.

Linda wants council to take action based on the report. She referred to All Fire’s observation, which points out issues within the department. She suggests there are councillors who supported the actions of the PFD and they should be held accountable.

“Who is throwing who under the bus?” she asked.

“This document is public and the public deserves a response from council and our town CAO,” said Linda.

Council did meet in camera for just over an hour on personnel issues as well as land issues.

After the in camera session Coun. Teri Underhill made a motion to suspend fire services indefinitely, however it was tabled to allow administration time to get council more information.
