Rezoning land seen to attract manufacturing

Town council will hold a public hearing Nov. 8 to consider rezoning 2.5 acres on the corner of 39 Avenue and 67 Street to light industrial from highway commercial.

“Council hopes that it spurs development in other areas of Ponoka,” said CAO Brad Watson.

Rezoning is conditional upon the sale of the property, but the company has not purchased the land yet. Mayor Larry Henkelman asked administration why the town would move forward with changing the zone if the contract was not signed.

Watson explained there is a lengthy process to rezoning and the company is moving forward with their plans to meet construction deadlines.

The property is planned to house a welding and manufacturing shop.
