On Aug. 15th Rimbey RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a dangerous driver on Highway 20.
A gravel truck was seen swerving between the ditch and the oncoming traffic lane, say police. Patrols were made and the truck was located on Hwy 53 west of Rimbey.
“In the course of the investigation the officer formed the opinion that the driver was impaired. He was arrested and charged with traffic and liquor offences and his licence was seized under the Alberta Administrative Licence Suspension program,” state RCMP.
The gravel truck was towed and impounded for three days.
Driving while impaired by drug or alcohol is never okay, say police.
“On average, from 2012 to 2016, each year 74 people were killed and 1,099 people were injured in collisions involving at least one driver who had consumed alcohol prior to the collision.”

On Aug. 14 a complaint was received in regards to apparent scammers on Highway 20.
It was reported that a vehicle was stopped on the highway and when motorists stopped to help them they asked for money or tried to sell worthless jewellery. The vehicle involved was a blue-green Chrysler 300 with tinted windows and a Manitoba licence plate with a cover.
In the vehicle there was a man and a woman, both with darker skin, and dark hair. Patrols were conducted but the vehicle was not located.
User duped by Telus phishing scam
On Aug. 20 a scam was reported where an email was received from Telus stating their account was past due, the complainant clicked the link in the email to update their account information, but the email was not a legitimate Telus email.
The complainant gave out personal and financial information.
Please be very cautious as scammers can disguise themselves to look very legitimate, say police. Education is a good defence. For information on popular scams visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online at antifraudcentre.ca.
In the last two weeks Rimbey RCMP Detachment responded to 131 calls for service. These files include but are not limited to; six break and enters, five theft related files, four assault complaints, six mental health related complaints and one theft of motor vehicle.
