A traffic stop on March 5 by Rimbey RCMP found a motorist in possession of a restricted handgun, among other things.

Rimbey RCMP held the stop at about 11:40 p.m. in Rimbey and found an adult male on parole, along with a 17-year-old girl from Red Deer in the vehicle.

RCMP found James Leslie Holley, 42, in the vehicle and after a search located a handgun with ammunition, bear spray and what appears to be methamphetamine drugs.

Also in the vehicle was the youth, say police, who cannot be identified due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Investigators say the girl appeared to also be in possession of methamphetamine drugs.

It is believed the drugs will be going for testing.

Both Holley and the girl now face charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as charges of possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Holley also faces charges of possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Neither subject spoke to bail, say police.  Holley has been remanded in custody and will have his bail appearance on April 7 in the Provincial Court of Alberta in Rimbey.  The youth remains in custody with her bail appearance set over as well.
