The Samson Cree Nation has opened up a temporary shelter in the community.

On March 30, the First Nation announced on their Facebook page that a home, located along Secondary Highway 611, would begin operation as an emergency shelter for those that are in need of a warm place to sleep.

The notice explained that the shelter would have limited capacity (just 10 beds are available) and that no families or children could be accommodated.

The shelter is being run through a collaboration of the Samson Community Wellness and Emergency Response Services.

Food and refreshments are available with staff conducting an intake for those wanting a bed. Security will also be onsite.

Anyone that notices or knows of a person that needs this service has been requested to contact the Community Wellness after-hours number at 780-335-9441 or call the Maskwacis Mobile Mental Health Crisis number at 780-362-2150.
