Search warrant nets cocaine and other drugs

A search warrant on a Ponoka home last week netted cocaine valued at $3,500.

Ponoka RCMP along with the Ponoka RCMP general investigation section and police dog services conducted the search warrant on Tuesday, June 21 at approximately 3 p.m. Along with the cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, hash and mushrooms, plus drug packaging materials were found.

A husband and wife were arrested along with a third male who was taken into custody as part of the investigation. The husband and wife were charged with trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

They were released on recognizance.

Broken down vehicle unregistered

Having a broken down vehicle didn’t help two people considering it was uninsured and unregistered.

A member of the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit noticed the vehicle with a flat tire Monday, June 27 on Highway 2. Upon arrival a quick check of the vehicle showed it had no insurance or registration and that a female passenger had a small amount of methamphetamine in her possession plus warrants for her arrest.

The owner of the vehicle, who was in the passenger’s seat at the time, could face a hefty fine of $2,800 for no insurance if found guilty. The woman was released on $1,500 no cash bail.

Driver nabbed at 195 km/h

A Calgary driver faces a mandatory court appearance after being clocked at 195 km/h recently.

The man was northbound on Highway 2 near Secondary Highway 611 when he was pulled over in his Subaru Impreza.

Vehicle break-ins continue

Ponoka RCMP continue to field calls of vehicle break ins in the Town of Ponoka.

Investigators remind vehicle owners to keep their valuables safe and to lock their doors to help prevent possible issues.

Couple found in stolen vehicle

In the early morning hours of June 28 a man and woman were found in a 1994 Plymouth Voyageur reported stolen out of Calgary.

They were charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. The full details were not available at press time.
