The sentencing for Ryan Jake Applegarth, convicted of the second degree murder of Chantelle Firingstoney of Ponoka, has been scheduled for Jan. 26, 2024.
Firingstoney, 26, died of severe injuries, including 12 broken ribs and a liver laceration that caused internal bleeding, in her residence on Nov. 5, 2020.
Applegarth was found guilty on May 5, 2023, by Justice E. Funk at the Court of King’s Bench in Wetaskiwin.
It was noted at the time, that with the summer court schedule, that the sentencing may not be until the fall.

Applegarth is currently serving a sentence for the manslaughter of Jamison Samuel Louis. Louis was fatally injured on Jan. 3, 2020, after a firearm was discharged during a struggle for the weapon.
Applegarth was sentenced on Nov. 3, 2022, to eight years, minus time served.
