The highlights of the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic Schools board meeting held Feb. 19 included several presentations and their annual financial audit.

Trustees enjoyed presentations from École Notre Dame School, Father Lacombe Catholic School, and École Mother d’Youville School on what they love about their schools and what makes them unique.

The board also welcomed a delegation representing Development and Peace and heard their request for support to bring information about the organization’s initiatives to local schools.

Travel Request

The board gave final approval for the Holy Trinity Academy service trip to the Dominican Republic in April.

Financial

The board approved four fiscal priorities identified for the 2020-2021 budget, including upholding Catholic education and maximizing frontline workers.

Trustees were also presented with an overview of STAR Catholic’s School Jurisdiction Financial Reporting Profile released by Alberta Education. The report tracks financial changes over the past five years and where STAR falls compared to the provincial averages.

The board then heard an update on Alberta Education’s new three-year average funding model and the potential impacts on STAR Catholic Schools.

Survey

The board also reviewed and completed a survey on the draft ministerial order for student learning.
